Romania is set to relaunch its film cash rebate scheme in May 2024, aiming to establish itself as a leading film production hub in Eastern Europe. The updated scheme, managed by the newly formed Office for Film and Cultural Investments (OFIC), offers a 30% rebate on local production expenses, with a total budget of 122 million EUR through 2026. To qualify, projects must begin filming within nine months of approval and meet a minimum local spend of 100,000 EUR. The scheme now prioritizes projects ready to start production over a “first come, first served” approach, encouraging efficiency and active investments in local production.
